About Progetto Corelli

Progetto Corelli has been presenting early music concerts in Melbourne since 2014.

Our aims are:

  • exploration of early music repertoire, including works by Corelli and lesser known composers

  • combining elements of contemporary and “authentic” performance practices.

We focus on music of the Baroque period (roughly 1600-1750), but we also sometimes play music from slightly earlier or later periods. We particularly want to reinvigorate the appreciation of music that is less familiar to modern audiences.

While it is the ideal in “historically informed performance” to use original or replica instruments playing at a pitch of A=415, we acknowledge that not every musician who wants to perform early music has access to these instruments. We aim to accommodate musicians who play on modern instruments and/or at modern pitch, to allow maximum participation.
