Arcangelo Corelli was one of the masters of the concerto grosso form of composition in the baroque era, juxtaposing the sweet tones of a solo group against the richness of a full ensemble.

This concert presents one of Corelli's concerti grossi, together with pieces in similar format by Georg Muffat, Giuseppe Torelli, Georg Philipp Telemann and Alessandro Scarlatti. The program is rounded out with contrasting works by Tomaso Albinoni and Vincenzo Albrici.

John Blow’s masque Venus and Adonis was performed for King Charles II, probably at Windsor Castle in 1683. It combined vocal and instrumental music, dance and costume, in a concise and lively form first developed in the Tudor and Elizabethan periods.

Progetto Corelli members supplement the instrumental forces in this production by the Kew Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
