Kew Philharmonic Chamber Choir directed by Stephen Kerr presents

Charpentier: Dixit Dominus and Missa Assumpta est Maria

With Progetto Corelli

Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Kew, VIC

Progetto Corelli joins forces again with the Kew Philharmonic Chamber Choir to present the sumptuous sacred music of Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643-1704) which reflects the refined grandeur promoted by his exact contemporary the “Sun King" Louis XIV. After studies in Rome and periods working for the Duchess de Guise and the Dauphin, Charpentier was employed at the Jesuit church of Saint-Louis, Paris. In 1698, he was appointed maître de musique at the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, a royal post which he held until his death. His Mass Assumpta est Maria dates from this final period.
